About NSS
- The NSS was launched in the year 1969, to commemorate the Birth Centenary of Mahatma Gandhiji.
- NSS is aimed at developing Student’s personality through Community Service.
- The ideological orientation of the NSS is inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. Very appropriately, the motto of NSS is “NOT ME, BUT YOU”. An NSS volunteer places the ‘community’ before ‘self’.
- The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
- It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level, Graduate & Post Graduate at college s& University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes.The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service.
AIM of NSS
- To inculcate social welfare in students and to provide service to society without bias.
- To Ensure that everyone who is needy, gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity.
- To Learn from people in villages , How to lead a good life despite scarcity of Resources.
- To help in Natural or Any other Disasters, by providing food, clothing and First Aid to the disaster Victims.

NSS MISSION
- Develop a sense of Social and Civic responsibility among Students by Themselves.
- Utilise the Student’s Knowledge in finding the practical solutions to individual and community problems
- Develop Capacity to meet Emergency and Natural Disasaters.
- Gain Skills in mobilizing Community Paticipation.
- Identify the needs and Problems of the community , and involve them in Problem solving.
NSS Day
- NSS was formally launched on 24th September, 1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation.
- 24 September is celebrated every year as NSS Day with appropriate programmes activities.
NSS Badge
- The Konark Wheel in the symbol has 8 bars,which represent the 24 hours of the day.
- The Badge reminds the wearer to be in readiness for service to the nation round the clock ie.24hours
- The Red colour in the Badge indicates that the NSS volunteer’s boldness i.e.,liveliness, activeness,energetic and full of high spirit.
- The Navy Blue colour indicates the cosmos in which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.
